W. C. Minor (1834–1920), volunteer reader for OED1
Minor was a major contributor of quotations to the first edition of the OED whose story has been told by Simon Winchester in his bestselling book The Surgeon of Crowthorne: A Tale of Murder, Madness and the Love of Words (1998); see also Knowles 1990 and the 'customer's review' of Winchester's book by Mitchell Redman on the Amazon website (dated 17 October 1998; scroll down the page). His life and his role as reader for the OED is briefly covered here, in our page on Individuals in the Reading and readers section of the site.
