Murray and his staff (including his daughters) |
This photo (from the OED archives) was taken on Murray's last day in his Scriptorium, 10 July 1915. Left to right, seated: Elsie M. R. Murray, James A. H. Murray, Rosfrith A. N. R. Murray; standing: A. J. Maling, F. J. Sweatman, F. A. Yockney. The photo was later reproduced in the issue of the Periodical marking Murray's death.
Murray died 16 days later, on 26 July 1915, from heart failure. On 1 July 1915 he had published Trink-Turndown, a range that in Bradley's opinion he had handled with 'characteristic sagacity and resource' (see report of Bradley's visit to Murray earlier that month in the Periodical 1915 and K. M. E Murray 1977: 311).
